Reconstruction was one of the most critical periods in American History. The Civil War changed the nation tremendously, and most importantly by bringing an end to slavery. The time period for the Reconstruction era was in 1865 to 1877, when the United States was rebuilding and reuniting after the Civil War. In 1865, four years of brutal deconstruction in the Civil War came to an end, 600,000 American soldiers lost their lives. Four million enslaved African Americans were emancipated. With different opinions flowing, the Presbyterian and Methodist churches split into Northern and Southern functions. The Southern churches supported slavery and believed that it was also supported by the Bible. The north believed that no man should be held in captivity or confinement by another man. The north wanted to end slavery but still most of the Northerner did not consider the black man to be equal to them. There were some Northerners that did believe all men are created equal. Some Northerners showed strong emotions about the eradication of slavery that they became violent. Most of the Northerners did not change after the war, which caused the segregation that continued until the 1960’s. In 1865, the Ku Klux Klan was started in Tennessee to stop blacks from taking advantage of their new rights. Members from the Ku Klux Klan would beat and murder blacks to keep them from having rights. Northern soldiers were stationed in the south to enforce the Reconstruction laws. The soldiers made sure blacks could vote in elections, be treated just like the white people, go to school, and they were also there to prevent any attacks from happening by the southern whites. In 1869, the Southern governments started to end control by the North in Tennessee and Virginia. Some of the power of the Southerners was regained to run their own state governments, which made the Northerners have less influence on the southern governments. The reason for the southerners joining the Ku Klux Klan was because they did not want blacks to have rights such as voting, owning land, freedom, be treated fairly at jobs, participate in court trials, run for office, etc.. Southern white people were not for reconstructing governments. They would not accept the black men that were once slaves as free black men who now had the right to Reconstruction 4 vote and participate in state government. As the nation started to celebrate the end of the war in April 1865, president Lincoln was shot and killed After Lincoln was assassinated, Andrew Johnson took over the process of the reconstruction. Johnson made the reconstruction less efficient. He forgave some ex-confederates and didn’t take the same steady approaches as Lincoln did. Johnson was a southerner, and like Lincoln, a self educated man who climbed up the ladder from an inferior decent. Southerners were now making new laws called black codes, which meant it made blacks’ lives harder and to prevent them from using their new rights. Some codes forced blacks to work for a year, and if they didn’t, they were thrown in jail for being unemployed, and also let them be whipped by their bosses. By enforcing labor contracts, and laws, the strict black codes kept freedmen tied to the plantation. This period was described as violence, revenge, retaliation, and eye for an eye against African Americans. The justice system of the south provided no refuge or assistance. The all white police force frequently terrorized African Americans, and the judges and other officials rarely prosecuted crimes against blacks. When the news of the black code laws and the violence against the freedmen spread to the North, it created outrage and fury. When the Northern soldiers were not positioned in the south to enforce Reconstruction laws, blacks had to live under the unpleasant, cruel, and unfair conditions caused by the black code laws. Johnson allowed the black codes to be passed which imposed heavy restrictions on freed African American slaves. Johnson was against the passage of a renewal of a new Freeman’s Bureau, which served as a positive organization for African Americans, Reconstruction 5 which would have allowed the black war veteran’s the right to vote. In 1867, Congress passed a new Reconstruction Act, that threw out the state governments of states that refused to ratify the 14th amendment. The 15th amendment was ratified in 1870, providing a constitutional guarantee of voting rights for African American males. By 1870, the Northerner lost interest in reconstructing the south. The north tried to reconstruct the south and change southerners attitudes about black people. Although they failed at this because many southerners were still racists and believed that the white race was superior to others, blacks were not as good as southern white men. To add to that, the Northerners lost interest in the reconstruction, which gave southerners a chance to gain control of their state governments again. The main complaints against the Presidential Reconstruction were the Radical Republicans of Congress. New political forces in the South gave way for new changes. During reconstruction, African Americans made huge political gains. They voted in large numbers and were also elected to political office. African Americans were elected as sheriffs, mayors, legislators, Congressmen, and Senators. Even thought their participation was significant, it was exaggerated by white southerners angry at the Black Republicans governments. Reconstruction governments built public schools for both black and white children. They also rebuilt and added more railroads, telegraph lines, bridges, and railroads. First- I think each member of our group was committed to do their best as time and resources allowed. Each contributed to the group in meetings and in presentations. Keith often was the leader behind our group presentations. I would say that he always was but I'm not sure that my memory is accurate. He came up with the ideas for the presentations that we ended up using, he coordinated them, made sure that everyone knew what they were doing and that they were going to do their part and be there on the day of the presentation. Charley did his part well and helped contribute ideas and suggestions for ways of presenting. Jessica and Salena came through and completed every assignment that they were given. When given parts to do for presentations they did them. Second- In our group members had differing goals that they wanted to accomplish. Though as it became closer to the due date of the final I think those goals became more the same but because of these differences it is difficult to determine for sure if every group member was committed to the good of the group or not. Over all I think the common goal of the group especially towards the end was to complete the final. This goal was shared both as a group and individually and the group was used to help all of the individuals complete the final. Third- Our group did not deal much with facts and opinions that would cause much tension as it might have had it been formed in an organization. But when it came to how to do the final conflict arose as different members had different ideas of how to do the final. I recall on one occasion when one member of the group accused another member of not listening to them. With in our small group there was strong cohesiveness between the females and between the males. Besides the gender issue I think this cohesiveness was stronger because from the beginning of the semester the girls usually sat together and the guys usually sat together. Though there was cohesiveness between these two there was not strong cohesiveness between the group as a whole. As a group, things that contributed to our cohesiveness were: similar interest in the mission of the group, success in giving our presentations, and most members of the group were successful in completing the group goal, which was to complete 5 evaluations of our selected groups. Why: Each member was committed to do their best because of the people we were and because at least half of the group felt that there was pressure to be as close to a perfect group as could be. This idea pushed us to be committed to doing our best and in a sense it hurt us, in that we felt hindered to do anything that might break that shell of behaving and being as close to a perfect group as possible. The first month was clogged with sales and promotional work, where I was expected to understand their clients and working style. Combined with constant mentoring and on-the-job training, I got the opportunity to add value to myself as well as the organization. Working on two different brands catering to diverse target audiences threw light on the dynamics of the Indian Markets. In order to successfully and effectively carry out the promotional work it was necessary to understand the needs of the respective clients and cater to them. TAKE CARE TAKE CHARGE Project Overview Take Care Take Charge was promoted by Garnier and Times of India. It was a 45 day campaign built around the topic of paper recycling.  Beginning from April 22, Over the next 45 days, this campaign helped to build a greenhouse of ideas to help build a greener planet. For every idea received, Garnier and the Times of India bought 10 kilograms of used paper. And on June 5 World Environment Day the campaign culminated with an entirely recycled special edition of the Times of India. Many Sustainable solutions to environmental issues under the following broad themes: transport and vehicular pollution; heritage and cultural conservation; and biodiversity and greening were generated. All the ideas were shared on www.takecaretakecharge.in Ideas was judged on robustness, scalability, ease of implementation and cost. Ten ideas per city was finalized by the Centre of Environment Education. The shortlisted ideas was not only published in the Times of India, but also was recommended to the government for implementation. Nissan India was planning to launch the small car named Micra in India on 15th July 2010 and its success would play a very crucial and key role in plans of Nissan for Indian Market. New Nissan Micra would be an excellent combination of newer generation cutting edge technology, exceptional design and advanced features. Developed and built on Nissans all-new V-platform, the new Nissan Micra was designed and tested in Japan to be built in at least four overseas locations, and fine-tuned to meet the differing tastes and needs of customers in 160 countries worldwide. The main threat being faced by Nissan in India was the low brand awareness in the minds of Indians. Nissan had to tap into the small car segment that was already wrought with fierce competition. Nissan approached Phonethics Mobile Media to handle the entire digital campaign for Micra. They were concerned about getting maximum number of bookings through the 11 dealers spread across India. Update the microsite with the updates of the company. Project Execution The work started off by creating a microsite for generating leads and capturing interest. A FACEBOOK fan page was made and latest updates about Nissan Micra were regularly posted. Customer queries were also managed mainly dealing with the car price, availability and technical specifications. Community managers were assigned the work of posting details about the car on relevant communities and groups. The FACEBOOK fan page generated close to 2000 fans in a short span of a month. FACEBOOK fan page was integral in engaging the audience and generating brand awareness amongst the younger internet savvy crowd. Around 1000 bookings were generated even before the TV ads had started playing. Per mille means per thousand impressions or loads of an advertisement. However, some impressions may not be counted, such as a reload or internal user action. The M in the acronym is the Roman numeral for one thousand. CPV (Cost per Visitor) or (Cost per View in the case of Pop Ups and Unders) is where advertisers pay for the delivery of a Targeted Visitor to the advertisers website. CPC (Cost Per Click) is also known as Pay per click (PPC).Advertisers pay each time a user clicks on their listing and is redirected to their website. They do not actually pay for the listing, but only when the listing is clicked on. This system allows advertising specialists to refine searches and gain information about their market. Under the Pay per click pricing system, advertisers pay for the right to be listed under a series of target rich words hat direct relevant traffic to their website, and pay only when someone clicks on their listing which links directly to their website.
